Visa has announced the expansion of Visa Direct in Angola, a solution designed to modernise cross-border payments and enable financial institutions and their customers to make international money transfers more quickly, transparently and efficiently. The initiative marks another step in the company’s strategy to strengthen the country’s digital payments infrastructure and support the ongoing development of Angola’s financial system.
The expansion of Visa Direct comes at a time when African economies are becoming increasingly interconnected and demand is growing for solutions that facilitate the movement of funds across borders. According to Visa, the platform enables financial institutions to process account-to-account payments through its global network, delivering greater speed, security and reliability for international transactions.
In Angola, Banco Valor is preparing to become the first issuing financial institution to offer these new capabilities to its customers, representing a significant milestone in the modernisation of the national payments system. The initiative also reflects the growing investment by Angolan financial institutions in technologies designed to enhance efficiency, transparency and connectivity across the financial sector.
According to Visa, Visa Direct is transforming the way money moves around the world by connecting banks, financial institutions and payment endpoints through a scalable and interoperable network built to meet the demands of an increasingly digital economy. The company believes that a modern payments infrastructure is essential to supporting trade, investment, business growth and financial inclusion across Africa.
Katia De Conceição, Visa’s Country Manager for Angola, said:
“The way money moves is changing. Businesses expect payment experiences that are faster, more transparent and aligned with the demands of a digital economy. Visa Direct is transforming cross-border payments by enabling financial institutions to deliver modern money movement solutions powered by the scale, security and reach of Visa’s global network. Making these capabilities available in Angola represents an important milestone in the continued evolution of the country’s payments ecosystem.”
The expansion of Visa Direct in Angola forms part of Visa’s broader strategy to invest in technology and partnerships across Africa, strengthening payments infrastructure, enhancing financial connectivity and supporting economic development. The company says it will continue working closely with financial institutions, regulators and industry partners to deliver innovative payment solutions that expand access to financial services and create new opportunities for businesses and individuals to thrive in an increasingly global economy.
