Two American and three Chinese in top five of biggest companies in the world

US Company Walmart tops Fortune’s ranking of the World’s 500 Largest Companies 2022 for the ninth yera in a row, a statement which takes the previous year’s revenue as its criterion confirmed.

Collectively, the 500 companies invoiced $37.8 trillion, representing a 19 percent growth in revenue compared to the 2021 list.

Walmart, which tops the list, had revenues of USD 573 billion, and its retail sales also grew by 2.4 percent. Profits increased by 1.2 percent, relative to 2021.

Apart from Walmart, in the top five are companies such as the American Amazon and the Chinese State Grid, Energy, China National Petroleum and Sinopec.

Amazon’s revenue was close to $469 billion, the highest value ever achieved by the company.

The energy sector was the best performer in terms of profits, reaching $485 billion.

21 of the 500 companies made their debut on the list, while 23 returned after a hiatus of at least a year.

For the first time, revenues of companies from China (including Taiwan) exceeded those of US firms.

China has the largest number of companies on the list – 145. The US comes second with 124 while Japan is third with 47.

In all, still, Fortune Global 500 companies in 2022 employed 69.6 million people. And the number of female CEOs rose to 24 this year, up from 23 last year.
