The relationship between Donald Trump and Elon Musk soured this Thursday, with accusations now involving the possibility that the U.S. president’s name may appear in the Epstein files.
Steve Bannon, former White House adviser and Trump ally, said on Thursday that he advised the President of the United States to cancel contracts with Musk and to open investigations into him. He also argued that the billionaire should be “immediately deported.”
“There should be a formal investigation into his immigration status because I am firmly convinced he is an illegal alien and should be immediately deported from the country,” Bannon told The New York Times.
According to the publication, Bannon—who has been criticizing Musk in recent months—also said the Trump administration should investigate Musk’s alleged drug use.
Trump’s ally added that Musk’s security clearance should be suspended during these investigations.
This day is notably marked by a “breakup” between Musk and Trump, which began with accusations and statements—the U.S. president said he had “always had a good relationship with Musk” but was “not sure” it would continue. Musk then accused Trump of “ingratitude,” saying that without his support, Trump would not have won the election.
Trump responded by calling Musk “crazy,” and Musk escalated the war of words by claiming that Trump’s name appeared in the Epstein files. Epstein, a billionaire, was accused of sex trafficking of minors, among other crimes. Some documents related to the case have already been released, detailing the network and involving other high-profile individuals, such as Prince Andrew and David Copperfield, among many others.
It is worth noting that Elon Musk left the U.S. government last week, and at the time, both men spoke to reporters and exchanged promises of friendship.
