Shopping Fortaleza promoted, last weekend, a Solidarity Walk along the Luanda Seafront in partnership with DP Pulungunza, as part of Pink October, a month dedicated to breast cancer awareness and prevention.
The initiative aimed to alert the population to the importance of prevention, early diagnosis and treatment of this disease, which continues to impact many women in Angola.
According to the Angolan Cancer Control Institute (IACC), breast cancer was the most diagnosed type in the country in 2023, with a record of 312 new cases and 23 deaths. In the first half of 2024 alone, 216 new cases and 11 deaths have already been recorded, data that reinforces the urgent need to intensify prevention and screening. The General Director of the IACC, Fernando Miguel, warned that many women seek hospital in advanced stages of the disease, which significantly reduces their chances of recovery. Although there are treatment options available, the director defended that Angolan society adopts a collective effort to strengthen prevention.
