Non-financial companies in the Public Business Sector (SEP) achieved in 2021, an aggregate result of their operating activities of 858.9 billion kwanzas, corresponding to an increase of 263.3% higher than that achieved in 2020, while those in the financial-banking sector achieved global revenues of 49.2 billion, representing, in this case, an improvement of 106.9% compared to 2020.

The figures are included in the report on the performance of the SEP, for the 2021 financial year, published by the Institute for Management of State Assets and Holdings (IGAPE).

The SEP universe for the year 2021 is composed of 88 companies, 69 of which are public companies, 15 public domain companies and 4 minority public shareholdings.

According to the document, of the 85 companies that existed in 2020, Sociedade de Desenvolvimento da Barra do Dande, S.A., Grupo Zahara, S.A. and Biocom, S.A. were admitted.

Regarding the operational status of Public Enterprises and with Public Domain (84), 71 are in full production activity, 6 with residual activity and 7 are paralysed. Of the universe of companies in full production and with residual activity (77), 69 have submitted accounts for the 2021 financial year.

The report noted that the jump in operating profit in the non-financial sector was strongly influenced by the favourable performance of Sonangol, Sodiam and the port of Luanda, which offset the negative effects of companies such as ENDE, TAAG and ENDIAMA, whose contributions were -8.0%, -6.3% and -2.0%, respectively.

Sonangol (103.7%), Endiama (3.4%) and Angola-Telecom (2.1%) represented the greatest contributions in the group of non-financial companies in SEP.

This is the first positive result, in aggregate terms, taking into account the last 3 economic years.

In 2021, in the SEP financial-banking sector, Banco de Comércio e Indústria (BCI), with a weight of 49.4%, was the entity that contributed most, followed by Banco de Poupança e Crédito (BPC) and Banco de Desenvolvimento de Angola (BDA), with 33.5% and 17.1%, respectively.

In the SEP Financial-Insurance Sector, similarly to what happened in 2020, ENSA Seguros once again recorded an increase in its net assets in 2021, rising from 38.0 billion kwanzas in 2020 to 44.8 billion kwanzas in 2021, an increase of 18.1%.

In relation to Recredit, a financial sector company, the report said that in 2021 its net interest income had reversed the trend seen in the previous period, reaching 25.5 billion kwanzas, or 100.3 percent growth compared to 2020.

The document adds that contributing to this result was the significant increase in income, particularly that linked to credit recovery, which increased 11.2 times, and the significant reduction (67.0%) seen in the entity’s costs, compared to the previous year, at a time when the measures to combat the Covid-19 pandemic are gradually being minimised.
