Ethiopia’s annual revenue from coffee exports has increased by 22% to $1.4 b.

According to the Ethiopia Tea and Coffee Authority, Ethiopia exported 300,000 tonnes of coffee, which generated a total of $1.4 b, a 22% increase from the previous year.

Among the reasons contributing to the increase in revenue were reforms undertaken by the Ethiopian government to increase coffee productivity and smoothen the marketing process.

Under the new strategy, Ethiopia aims to increase its annual coffee export earnings to $ 4.6 b over 15 years.

Coffee is the main source of exports in Ethiopia, and accounts for over 30% of the country’s total export earnings.

Although Ethiopia’s coffee exports are mainly dominated with green coffee exports, recent reports show that in recent years some companies have been moving towards exporting roasted, ground and packaged coffee.
