The Competition Regulatory Authority (ARC) will hold an international webinar on 2 July focusing on the challenges that digital markets pose to Competition Law. The event will bring together experts from Angola and Portugal to discuss emerging regulatory trends and the enforcement of competition rules.

The webinar comes at a time when the rapid expansion of digital platforms, artificial intelligence, and the strategic use of data is reshaping the way businesses compete, creating new challenges for competition authorities around the world.

According to ARC, these technological developments require competition regulators to adapt their tools and enforcement models in order to ensure markets remain transparent, innovative, and competitive.

The webinar will examine two of the most significant issues currently shaping the international competition law agenda: the regulation of digital markets and private enforcement, a legal mechanism that enables businesses and consumers to seek compensation through the courts for damages resulting from anti-competitive practices.

Quoted in a statement issued by the Authority, ARC’s Head of the Legal and Litigation Department, Adalberto Cauaia, said that “digital transformation is redefining the way markets operate and requires the continuous updating of technical and legal expertise.”

He added that promoting this debate represents “another step in ARC’s commitment to strengthening the culture of competition and bringing Angola closer to international best practices.”

The initiative forms part of the Competition Regulatory Authority’s broader strategy to promote technical capacity-building and knowledge exchange on the challenges that the digital economy presents for competition policy and market regulation.
