Angola’s 2026/2027 Agricultural Season officially opens this Saturday, October 24, in Cunene Province, with the main ceremony expected to take place in the Cafu Irrigated Perimeter area. The new campaign is focused on increasing domestic production, strengthening food security and reducing agricultural imports.
The opening comes as the Government seeks to reinforce support for producers and farming families through the distribution of seeds, fertilisers, equipment and mechanisation resources. More than 200,000 tonnes of fertilisers have been prepared for the 2026/2027 campaign, according to information released by Angola’s National Radio.
Cunene’s selection to host the main ceremony is linked to investments made in the province’s hydro-agricultural sector, particularly the Cafu Canal and the Ndúe and Calucuve dams. These infrastructures are intended to improve water availability for agriculture and livestock in a region that is particularly vulnerable to the effects of drought.
As part of preparations for the campaign, the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry has also focused on expanding cultivated areas, improving access roads for the transport of agricultural produce and increasing mechanisation, measures considered essential for boosting production and improving the availability of locally produced food.
Figures previously released by the Agrarian Development Institute indicated that more than 273,000 tonnes of fertilisers were available to support agricultural activity across the country. In Cunene, around 80 percent of the province’s allocation was already available, with approximately 271,000 farming families expected to benefit.
The new Agricultural Season forms part of the Government’s strategy to make agriculture one of the main drivers of economic diversification, increase domestic production and reduce dependence on food imports through better use of water resources and stronger support for both family and commercial farming.
