Ten thousand guests and 45 foreign delegations will attend, on Tuesday in Luanda, the main ceremony marking the 50th anniversary of Angola’s independence, announced on Monday the Minister of State and Head of the Civil House of the President.

“Celebrating 50 years is a unique and extraordinary event,” said Adão de Almeida, highlighting the “long period of preparation” for this event, which symbolizes the national unity “of a people who freed themselves from colonialism, achieved peace, and work tirelessly for the development of the country.”

According to the minister, the ceremony, which will take place at Praça da República, will include delegations from all provinces and foreign representations “of various levels,” including heads of state, vice presidents, prime ministers, and foreign ministers, totaling 45 confirmed international delegations.

Initially, around eight thousand guests were expected to attend the main event, but the number was increased “to include more people,” and the authorities created conditions to receive approximately 10,000 citizens, including about 350 accredited journalists to cover the event.

The civic parade will bring together around six thousand participants, representing “the most diverse segments of Angolan society,” followed by a military parade with four thousand members of the Angolan Armed Forces and the National Police, which will conclude with the performance of the official song for the 50th anniversary.

The ceremony will also include a posthumous decoration with the Medal of Honor to President António Agostinho Neto, the proclaimer of national independence and the country’s first head of state, as well as a national address by President João Lourenço, considered the highlight of the celebrations.

Before the main ceremony, the national flag will be hoisted at the Military History Museum, followed by a tribute at the sarcophagus of the Dr. António Agostinho Neto Memorial, attended by João Lourenço and the invited heads of state.

Adão de Almeida assured that all security, transportation, and medical assistance conditions are guaranteed, with emergency teams and evacuation means prepared on site.

“Today we have all the conditions in place so that tomorrow we can have an important moment of reflection and celebration of the 50 years of our independence,” he stated.

The minister added that the event brings together “the various States that helped Angola in the struggle for national liberation and that continue to support Angola today within the framework of international cooperation for development,” reinforcing the diplomatic and symbolic character of the celebrations.

Adão de Almeida also emphasized that the event “celebrates the diversity, culture, and joy of the Angolan people,” reflecting the plurality of regions, ethnicities, and cultural expressions represented in the parade and among the public present.

The minister further stressed that only invited guests will have access to Praça da República, given the ceremonial nature of the event. “The process of preparing and distributing invitations took into account the cross-section of society,” he said, ensuring that “all segments will be represented.”

In logistical terms, the organization foresees the mobilization of buses to transport guests from parking areas and a security deployment of around four thousand agents to ensure public order.

Adão de Almeida stated that preparations are proceeding normally and that all conditions have been created for the country to celebrate, with dignity, the greatness of its 50 years of independence.
