Lobito Atlantic Railway (LAR) has taken a major step in modernizing its infrastructure with the arrival of the first 100 container wagons at the Port of Lobito. These wagons are part of a larger order of 275 units purchased from China Railway Rolling Stock Corporation (CRRC), in a move aimed at improving operational efficiency and strengthening regional trade.

Delivered by a COSCO vessel, the newly arrived wagons are specifically designed for the rail transport of key commodities such as copper, sulfur, and other goods, enhancing the railway connection between Angola and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).

According to LAR, this investment is part of a broader strategy to position Angola as a leading logistics hub in Southern Africa, leveraging the potential of the Lobito Corridor railway to facilitate cross-border trade and drive regional economic development.

The wagons will be put into immediate operation, significantly increasing the company’s freight capacity and reinforcing Angola’s role as a strategic logistics platform along the Atlantic-African corridor.

The arrival of this first batch marks another milestone in LAR’s commitment to modernizing the railway sector and advancing regional economic integration.
