Located within the perimeter of the Special Economic Zone, Casa do Kwanza aims to serve as a facility for the storage of precious metals and the destruction of physical currency.
Angolan President João Lourenço inaugurated Casa do Kwanza this Thursday, the 27th, in the province of Icolo e Bengo. This facility, owned by the National Bank of Angola (BNA), will serve as a center for cash storage, processing, and distribution.
The Head of State unveiled the plaque marking the inauguration and cut the ribbon, thus formalizing the commencement of operations at the modern facility.
In statements to journalists, João Lourenço acknowledged that this infrastructure was much needed.
“The functions it will perform were previously carried out under very precarious conditions in the central building of the National Bank of Angola. Precarious not only in terms of the accommodation and comfort of the staff working there but, above all, in terms of security,” he stated.
The President emphasized that currency is linked to the nation’s sovereignty, noting that protecting the national currency is challenging but essential and necessary.
“We believe that with the state-of-the-art technology installed in this new facility, our currency will be better protected, allowing us to better serve our economy,” he assured.
Located within the perimeter of the Special Economic Zone, the facility is also intended to serve as a storage site for precious metals and for the destruction of physical currency that is no longer fit for circulation.
The complex of buildings that make up Casa do Kwanza (ten in total) is the result of nearly four years of construction. The cutting-edge technological equipment ensuring the facility’s operations originates from Germany.
