The wave of looting of various goods from stores and warehouses has struck the MBS Group – Momade Bachir Suleimane. Reports from the owner of the business conglomerate reveal that at least 30 out of the 33 warehouses holding merchandise in the City and Province of Maputo have been vandalized and looted.

In Matola alone, 18 warehouses were affected. In Machava, five locations were targeted. “There was a warehouse of 10,000 square meters (…), 5,000, 4,000, 3,000. At this moment, they are burning all our warehouses; they are taking merchandise with carts, chapa 100,” said Momade Bachir.

According to him, there are many people complicit in the acts of vandalism and looting of his warehouses, and he laments the situation.

“Allah (God) is the Eternal Forgiver, the Merciful, the Clement. Truly, we belong to God, and truly to Him, we shall return,” said Bachir in Arabic, uttering words that, in Islam—the religion he practices—symbolize and acknowledge God as the Almighty and reflect an understanding that this is a test to see how much they can endure.

Moreover, the owner of the MBS Group expressed gratitude for at least still being alive and healthy, despite the post-election tension that began on October 21 and has now intensified.

The MBS Group operates an extensive network of commercial establishments in Mozambique. In the business sector, they identify as wholesalers of food and related products, hardware, as well as plumbing and heating equipment and supplies. Additionally, they are wholesalers of household appliances, electrical and electronic products, among other goods and services.
