The Brazilian government has decided to extend the validity of visit visas granted to Angolan citizens from two to five years, a measure that comes into force on February 1. The decision was reported this Wednesday by the press in both countries.
According to the newspaper O País, citing sources from the Brazilian Embassy in Luanda, the initiative is part of efforts to strengthen diplomatic, economic and cultural ties between Angola and Brazil, with the aim of facilitating the mobility of Angolan citizens.
The visit visa will now allow multiple entries into Brazilian territory throughout its period of validity. However, the legal limit for each stay remains unchanged at 90 days, in accordance with Brazilian law.
According to the newspaper O Globo, the measure follows Angola’s decision to abolish tourist visa requirements for citizens of 98 countries since 2023. The publication notes that although the maximum duration of each stay in Brazil remains 90 days, visa holders will be able to return to the country multiple times over the five-year validity period.
In the medium term, the extension of visa validity is expected to help reduce the high volume of applications submitted to Brazilian diplomatic missions in Luanda, which increased significantly after the pandemic. Before the health crisis, the average was around five thousand applications per year; currently, the figure stands at about two thousand applications per month, one of the highest volumes recorded among Brazil’s diplomatic missions abroad.
