President of the Republic of Angola, João Lourenço, traveled to Serbia on Monday in response to an invitation from his counterpart, Aleksandar Vučić, for an official visit aimed at strengthening bilateral relations.
According to the Office of the President’s Press Service, the visit will focus on expanding political, economic, and commercial cooperation between the two countries, as well as identifying new investment opportunities and strategic partnerships.
The two Heads of State will witness the signing of cooperation agreements in several areas, with particular emphasis on an Economic Forum that will serve as a platform to explore new investment opportunities and business exchanges between entrepreneurs from both countries.
The President’s trip to Belgrade is the latest expression of a bilateral relationship that, unlike many African partnerships with European countries, was not born out of post-colonial negotiations or immediate economic interests, but rather from a political decision made on the night of November 11–12, 1975, when Angola’s national independence was proclaimed.
The Angolan Head of State’s visit will last three days and will reinforce that commitment through a meeting between two leaders who govern countries with different resources and who share a long history of political solidarity.
For Serbia, its relationship with Angola remains one of its most valued African partnerships, built on friendship and mutual understanding, at a time when Belgrade seeks to assert an independent and broad foreign policy while balancing its bid for membership in the European Union.
