Mitrelli Group and Angola’s Sovereign Wealth Fund have announced the transition into a new operational phase of the Lobito Corridor Impact Development Platform, a USD 1 billion initiative aimed at boosting economic growth and regional integration along the strategic railway corridor.

The announcement was made by Haim Taib, founder and president of Mitrelli, through a social media post in which he described the moment as “an important milestone” for the Lobito Corridor.

According to Taib, the platform is now moving from the stage of vision and commitment into a phase of “structured execution,” focused on sustainable investments, job creation, and inclusive development across Angola and the wider region.

“Together with Angola’s Sovereign Wealth Fund, we launched this USD 1 billion platform with a clear purpose: to turn one of Africa’s most strategic corridors into a real engine for sustainable and inclusive growth,” the businessman wrote.

The initiative already includes an initial commitment of USD 100 million, which the promoters describe as the foundation for implementing the first projects linked to the corridor.

In the same publication, Haim Taib announced the appointment of Mwiza Mseteka as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Lobito Platform. Mseteka brings regional experience across Angola, Zambia, and the Democratic Republic of Congo, as well as a track record in public-private partnerships and investment platforms.

According to Taib, Mseteka’s leadership will be critical in moving the initiative “from concept to delivery.”

The Lobito Corridor is currently regarded as one of the most strategic projects for logistics and trade integration in Southern Africa, connecting the Port of Lobito to mining regions in Zambia and the DRC. The project has attracted growing interest from international partners, including European and American investors.

The publication comes during a week marked by the Angola–European Union Lobito Corridor Business Forum, at a time when the Angolan government is seeking to consolidate the corridor as a central axis for transportation, trade, and regional industrialization.

“This is how vision becomes reality,” Haim Taib concluded in his post.
