Inflation in Angola slowed to 14.56% in January, down 1.13 percentage points compared to December 2025 and representing a year-on-year decrease of 11.92 percentage points, the Angolan National Institute of Statistics (INE) announced.
According to the National Consumer Price Index compiled by the INE, the decline to 14.56% confirms the downward trend in prices throughout 2025, when inflation stood at 26.48% in January of that year.
Despite this downward trajectory, the “transport” category recorded the highest price increase in January, with a year-on-year variation of 19.07%. Notable increases were also observed in the categories of “housing, water, electricity and fuels” (16.60%), “health” (15.92%), and “food and non-alcoholic beverages” (14.89%).
In terms of contribution to the overall rise in the general price level, the “food and non-alcoholic beverages” category had the greatest impact, followed by “miscellaneous goods and services,” “transport,” and “health.”
Huambo (12.57%), Zaire (12.93%), and Cuando Cubango (13.11%) were the Angolan provinces with the lowest inflation rates in January, while the highest rates were recorded in Cabinda (23.12%), Lunda Sul (16.93%), and Bié (16.42%).
