Angola ranks fourth among African countries with the cheapest diesel prices in May 2026, maintaining the fuel price at $0.436 per litre, according to data released by GlobalPetrolPrices.<\/p>\n
Libya leads the ranking, where diesel costs just $0.024 per litre, followed by Algeria ($0.233) and Egypt ($0.386). Angola is followed by Sudan, Tunisia, Gabon, Niger, Ethiopia, and Madagascar, completing the list of the ten countries with the lowest diesel prices on the continent.<\/p>\n
According to the report, diesel prices remained unchanged in Angola, Libya, and Sudan, despite the slight decline recorded in the global average price, which dropped from $1.60 to $1.57 per litre between April and May this year.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, countries such as Algeria, Egypt, Tunisia, Gabon, and Niger recorded moderate price reductions, while Ethiopia and Madagascar were the only countries on the list to experience increases in fuel costs.<\/p>\n
Diesel continues to play a strategic role in African economies, powering transportation systems, agricultural production, industrial activity, and also serving as an alternative energy source in regions with unstable electricity supply.<\/p>\n
Experts point out that low or stable diesel prices help reduce inflationary pressures, improve food distribution logistics, and provide greater predictability in companies\u2019 operational costs.<\/p>\n
The report also highlights the recent case of Kenya, where a fuel price increase of more than 20% triggered public protests and transport strikes, significantly affecting economic activity. Following social pressure, the Kenyan government reduced diesel prices by approximately 10 shillings per litre in the next pricing review.<\/p>\n
