{"id":9711,"date":"2026-02-12T20:31:21","date_gmt":"2026-02-12T20:31:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.negociosdeangola.com\/menos-de-metade-das-estradas-nacionais-em-angola-esta-asfaltada-governo\/"},"modified":"2026-02-12T20:36:22","modified_gmt":"2026-02-12T20:36:22","slug":"less-than-half-of-angolas-national-roads-are-paved-government","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.negociosdeangola.com\/en\/less-than-half-of-angolas-national-roads-are-paved-government\/","title":{"rendered":"Less Than Half of Angola\u2019s National Roads Are Paved \u2014 Government"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-start=\"70\" data-end=\"286\">More than half of Angola\u2019s national road network (58.7%) is not paved, the Minister of Public Works, Urbanism and Housing said today, addressing the challenges of maintaining and preserving the country\u2019s paved roads.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"288\" data-end=\"542\">Carlos dos Santos announced that Angola\u2019s Road Plan estimates the country has a road network of approximately 79,300 kilometers, including 27,600 kilometers of national roads \u2014 only about 41% of which are paved \u2014 and 51,700 kilometers of municipal roads.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"544\" data-end=\"795\">\u201cIn this context, the national road network currently has more than 11,400 kilometers paved, representing about 41.3% of the total length of national roads, which highlights the challenge of maintaining and preserving this asset,\u201d the minister stated.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"797\" data-end=\"1026\">Speaking at the opening of the International Seminar on Road Concessions, taking place in the Angolan province of Benguela, the minister also noted that Angola views its road network as one of the drivers of economic development.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1028\" data-end=\"1325\">He added that investments are underway to modernize roads in line with international standards, emphasizing that Angolan authorities see road concessions as a \u201cstrategic instrument to mobilize private financing, accelerate structural projects, and ensure sustainable maintenance and preservation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1327\" data-end=\"1523\">According to the Minister of Public Works, public-private partnerships and concession models are also strategic tools to achieve the goals set out in the National Development Plan (NDP 2023\u20132027).<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1525\" data-end=\"1863\">The minister stated that holding the seminar demonstrates the country\u2019s clear interest in mobilizing private financing for public infrastructure, reducing pressure on the Angolan state\u2019s financial resources through the General State Budget, ensuring operational efficiency, and guaranteeing sustainable maintenance of road infrastructure.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1865\" data-end=\"2143\">He also announced that studies and projects are already underway for the construction of the future north-south highway, with support from the construction company China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC) Angola \u2014 a \u201cstrategic axis\u201d that will connect Angola from north to south.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2145\" data-end=\"2422\">He further highlighted that Angola will soon sign a memorandum with a consortium of financial entities to begin studies and projects for the construction of the west-east highway, which he stressed will be a \u201ctrue road corridor from Lobito spanning more than 1,300 kilometers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2424\" data-end=\"2752\">Meanwhile, the political adviser and representative of the Portuguese Embassy in Angola, T\u00e2nia Saraiva, stated in her remarks that investment in infrastructure \u2014 particularly in the road network \u2014 is a fundamental pillar for territorial cohesion, economic dynamism, regional integration, and improving citizens\u2019 quality of life.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2754\" data-end=\"3246\">\u201cDiscussing models, learning from international and regional experiences, and adapting best practices to the Angolan reality is an exercise in responsibility and strategic vision,\u201d she emphasized.
