The 7th African Union\u2013European Union Summit concluded on Tuesday, the 25th, in Luanda with a clear appeal for strengthened concrete actions and for the defence of effective multilateralism. In his closing speech, the President of the African Union, Jo\u00e3o Manuel Gon\u00e7alves Louren\u00e7o, host of the event, outlined the main areas of consensus and set out a vision for an increasingly ambitious strategic partnership.<\/p>\n
According to Jo\u00e3o Louren\u00e7o, the summit\u2019s deliberations reflect a \u201cprofound collective vision\u201d that compels the two continents to \u201cmove forward together\u201d in seeking solutions to shared concerns.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was agreed among us that the defence of effective multilateralism remains our best hope for building a fairer, more balanced, peaceful, and prosperous world,\u201d the President said.<\/p>\n
Jo\u00e3o Louren\u00e7o emphasized that the partnership is built not only on ideas, but above all on \u201cconcrete actions developed with great dynamism.\u201d As proof of this positive evolution since the Brussels Summit in 2022, he cited the \u201cvery positive results\u201d achieved in the areas of peace and security, health, climate and energy cooperation, digital transformation, trade and investment, and mobility.<\/p>\n
The implementation report adopted in Luanda, he noted, highlights these advances but also acknowledges areas requiring improvement. \u201cThe critical perspective we maintain regarding our cooperation enables us to continually improve and refine our collaborative efforts,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n
The summit\u2019s final act was marked by the definition of joint priority actions for the immediate future. Leaders agreed to expand cooperation in peace and security, promoting \u201cstronger responses\u201d against terrorism and violent extremism.<\/p>\n
Other consensus areas include intensifying climate action \u2014 including financing for adaptation and resilience \u2014 strengthening economic ties through investment in infrastructure and sustainable agriculture, expanding exchanges to ensure \u201csafe, orderly, and beneficial\u201d migration, and promoting youth empowerment.<\/p>\n
