{"id":9082,"date":"2025-04-08T22:49:25","date_gmt":"2025-04-08T22:49:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.negociosdeangola.com\/eua-acusa-angola-de-pratica-desleal-por-restricoes-a-importacoes\/"},"modified":"2025-04-08T22:56:30","modified_gmt":"2025-04-08T22:56:30","slug":"u-s-accuses-angola-of-unfair-practice-over-import-restrictions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.negociosdeangola.com\/en\/u-s-accuses-angola-of-unfair-practice-over-import-restrictions\/","title":{"rendered":"U.S. Accuses Angola of &#8220;Unfair Practice&#8221; Over Import Restrictions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"\" data-start=\"71\" data-end=\"308\">The Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) has labeled Angola\u2019s recently announced restrictions on beef, pork, and poultry imports as \u201cunfair trade practices,\u201d justifying the imposition of tariffs on the African country.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"310\" data-end=\"581\">In a post published Monday on the platform X, the U.S. agency responsible for developing and promoting U.S. foreign trade policy highlighted \u201c10 unfair trade practices\u201d from various countries that are currently impacting American exporters \u2014 including the case of Angola.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"583\" data-end=\"794\">\u201cAngola recently announced that it will restrict import licenses for beef, pork, and poultry products starting July 31, 2025. In 2024, U.S. poultry exports to Angola were valued at $136 million,\u201d noted the USTR.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"796\" data-end=\"1023\">\u201cAngola is the 9th largest market for U.S. poultry exports globally and the largest in Africa. These new trade restrictions will have a significant impact on American farmers and livestock producers,\u201d the federal agency stated.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1025\" data-end=\"1253\">Angola\u2019s Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, through the Veterinary Services Institute, announced last February that the importation of certain animal-origin food products \u2014 namely poultry, pork, and beef \u2014 will be prohibited.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1255\" data-end=\"1530\">In a notice addressed to &#8220;importers of animal-origin products and by-products,&#8221; it was stated that &#8220;licenses will not be issued for the importation of offal, parts of poultry, pork, and beef&#8221; as long as local production of these products is viable from specific dates onward.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1532\" data-end=\"1659\">This measure is part of the Angolan government\u2019s efforts to boost domestic production and reduce dependency on foreign markets.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1661\" data-end=\"1841\">On Wednesday, in what he dubbed \u201cLiberation Day,\u201d U.S. President Donald Trump imposed a 10% tariff on imports from 184 countries and territories, including the European Union (EU).<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1843\" data-end=\"2163\">Under the new rules presented by Trump, tariffs on Angolan products would rise to 32%, compared to the average customs duty rate of 11%. However, \u201csince Angola has not increased its own customs tariffs, the new U.S. tariffs have no impact on Angolan goods sold to the U.S.,\u201d Angolan economist Fl\u00e1vio Inoc\u00eancio told Lusa.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2165\" data-end=\"2518\">In addition to Angola, other Portuguese-speaking countries affected by Trump\u2019s announcement include Mozambique, with 16% tariffs, and Equatorial Guinea, with 13%. The remaining CPLP members \u2014 Brazil, Guinea-Bissau, S\u00e3o Tom\u00e9 and Pr\u00edncipe, Cape Verde, and Timor-Leste \u2014 will face tariffs of 10%, while Portugal is subject to the tariffs imposed on the EU.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2520\" data-end=\"2668\">Trump also announced a 20% tariff on goods imported from the EU, in addition to existing 25% tariffs on the automotive, steel, and aluminum sectors.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2670\" data-end=\"2796\">In Monday\u2019s post, the USTR also cited Brazil among the countries accused of unfair trade practices to justify the new tariffs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2798\" data-end=\"3082\">\u201cIllegal logging and mining in South America \u2014 particularly in Brazil, Peru, Colombia, and Ecuador \u2014 contribute to environmental degradation and create unfair competition that harms U.S. companies committed to responsible sourcing and environmental law compliance,\u201d the agency argued.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"3084\" data-end=\"3294\">\u201cThese illicit activities, often involving transnational criminal organizations, distort global commodity markets by lowering prices and enabling bad actors to undercut legitimate American exporters,\u201d it added.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) has labeled Angola\u2019s recently announced restrictions on beef, pork, and poultry imports as \u201cunfair trade practices,\u201d justifying the imposition of tariffs on the African country.
