Completion of the deal still depends on legal authorisations from the relevant authorities, according to Observador. It is worth noting that CFSA was already a reference shareholder in BFA since the bank’s stock market listing in 2025, holding 7.61% of its capital, according to the newspaper Eco.

Born from a small family business built by matriarch Leonor Carrinho in Lobito, the Carrinho Group now describes itself, on its official website, as “an Angolan family business committed to developing the food sector’s first vertically integrated organisational structure, managing every stage of the process: sourcing, transport, storage, processing and commercialisation.” With more than 60 retail outlets under the Eskebras and Bem Barato brands and 19 industrial units spread across six provinces, the agribusiness conglomerate has managed to convert the financial muscle built up in the food sector into a firm foothold in national banking.

That foray into finance began in 2021, with the purchase of BCI for around $30 million, continued with the acquisition of Keve — a deal already approved by Angola’s Competition Regulatory Authority — and now reaches its high point with its entry into BFA’s shareholder base, one of the country’s largest banks. The operation has been closely followed by analysts and Angolan media outlets, who point to a growing concentration of economic power in the hands of the group led by Nelson Carrinho.

With BPI’s exit from Angola now practically confirmed, what remains is to await the outcome of the regulatory approvals for the Carrinho Group to effectively assume shareholder control of three of the country’s most significant banking institutions — a milestone that cements the group’s transition from agribusiness giant to an unavoidable heavyweight of Angola’s financial system.

The Carrinho Group, led by Nelson Carrinho, has taken control of three of Angola’s leading commercial banks after its company Congolian Financial SA (CFSA) acquired the 33.35% stake that BPI held in Banco de Fomento Angola (BFA), corresponding to 5,002,500 […]

[74,69,78

post-10274","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-banking","category-business","category-featured
["GET
